Q: What are the primary duties of a Station Hosts?
A: Station Hosts at select stations assist rail customers by answering travel questions and providing train information, helping passengers to and from trains, promote rail travel, and assist Amtrak staff.
Q: What is the time commitment?
A: Hosts can determine how many hours they can volunteer each week.
Q: Is there an age requirement to be a station host?
A: Hosts must be at least 21 years old. There is no maximum age limit, but hosts must be physically able to move safely through the train station without assistance.
Q: Does it cost to join the organization?
A: It costs a modest fee of $30 per year and a one-time fee of $15 for a Amtrak volunteer host cap.
Q: Does Amtrak provide free travel to reach a host location?
A: Unfortunately no, Amtrak travel is not provided, to perform host duties.
Q: How do you become a Station Host?
A: If you are interested in becoming a Station Host you can submit an online application at stationhost.org/volunteer.
Q: Can you provide specific train, travel, or pricing information?
A: Our volunteers are verse in answering general questions in person relating to a particular Host station and the locale. Amtrak has a sizable train and bus connection network as well as various ticket prices, thus it is not possible for us to field those types of questions.
